Designing Smarter Catalysts for Cleaner Methane Conversion
Sarah LaCroix, E’27, and Chengyu Zhou, PhD’28, co-authored a paper with ChE Assistant Professor Qing Zhao titled “Discovering Ni/Cu single-Atom Alloy as a Highly Active and Selective Catalyst for Direct Methane Conversion to Ethylene: A First-Principles Kinetic Study” that was featured in the Supplementary Journal Cover Art of ACS Catalysis.

GLP-1 Weight Loss Drug Prices Are Unlikely To Decrease in the Near Future
Bouvé/ChE University Distinguished Professor Mansoor Amiji says people seeking weight loss drugs may be able to get help from patient financial assistance programs and alternative medications. Mounjaro weight loss drug’s active ingredient—semaglutide—is no longer in short supply, so less expensive GLP-1 compounded versions are no longer available.

NSF CAREER Award To Advance Sustainable Biochemical Production
ChE Assistant Professor Benjamin Woolston received a $575,765 NSF CAREER award for “Metabolic ‘Doping’ To Enhance Production of Biochemicals From Sustainable C1 Feedstocks.” The research aims to understand the regulation of carbon metabolism and use the insight to make acetogens more effective for renewable production of fuels and chemicals.

Dhwani Bhatt, E’27, chemical engineering, won the Sears B. Condit Award, which is awarded annually to one student from each of Northeastern’s undergraduate day colleges and is one of the highest honors that a junior or senior at Northeastern University can receive.
