Hongfei Lin, who has dedicated his professional career to advancing sustainable energy systems, is joining Northeastern in July 2025 as the Arthur W. Zafiropoulo professor of chemical engineering.

Colin Gallagher, PhD’27, chemical engineering, who works in ChE Assistant Professor Qing Zhao’s lab, was awarded a 2025 Kokes Award, which he will receive at the 29th North American Catalysis Society Meeting (NAM29), to be held in Atlanta, Georgia in June

Bryan Schellberg, PhD’25, chemical engineering, placed third in the student-talks category at the BioEl 2025 conference in Austria for his presentation “In-Situ Monitoring of Cellular Function On-Chip via Automated, Non-Invasive Luminescence Sensing.”

ChE PhD Student Receives Travel Award at Biophysical Society 2025
Natesan Mani, PhD’26, chemical engineering, who works in ChE/COS Assistant Professor Srirupa Chakraborty’s lab, received a travel award to attend the Biophysical Society 2025 Annual Meeting in Los Angeles, Calif., where he presented a talk and a poster on “Glycan-Mediated Regulation of IgG1 Fc-CD16a Interactions: Insights From All-Atom Simulations.”

Northeastern University’s student chapter of Sigma Xi, The International Scientific Research Honor Society, was recognized as a 2024 Student Chapter of Excellence. The group also received a Chapter Program of Excellence Award for its Research Immerse Program.

Acorn Grant Awarded for Research on Plant Production of Chemotherapy Drugs
ChE Associate Professor Carolyn Lee-Parsons and Postdoctoral Research Associate Lauren Cole-Osborn were awarded a 2025 Acorn Innovation Grant (Acorn Award) from MassVentures for their project, “Elite CRISPR-Edited Periwinkle Plants for Production of Chemotherapeutics.”

Amiji Elected AAAS Fellow
Bouvé/ChE University Distinguished Professor Mansoor Amiji was elected as an American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) 2024 Fellow in the Pharmaceutical Sciences section for distinguished contributions in pharmaceutical sciences with a specific focus on targeted drug delivery for a variety of diseases including cancer, inflammatory diseases, and CNS diseases.
