Faculty Hiring

Northeastern University is adding 500 faculty in the next 5 years. This year, open rank tenure-track faculty searches are cluster-based in broad areas of research. The Department of Chemical Engineering seeks applications for open-rank, interdisciplinary faculty candidates with research interests in biological systems and solutions, food, water, energy nexus, sustainability and resilience, and/or modeling. Candidates will have the opportunity to collaborate in cross-disciplinary teams across the University and will complement existing strengths.

We are seeking new approaches for batteries and energy storage and conversion, climate and environmental modeling, water treatment, environmental sensing and monitoring, and renewable and sustainable consumer products. Fields that may be relevant include materials and nanomaterial science and engineering, photochemistry, synthetic chemistry, analytical chemistry, biochemistry and bioengineering.

Candidates are expected to develop vigorous research programs cross-cutting chemical, biological, environmental engineering, and/or materials science. Faculty members at Northeastern are expected to develop independent research programs that attract external funding; teach courses at the graduate and undergraduate level; mentor students and postdocs in their area of research; and participate in service to the department, university, and discipline. A Ph.D. in a discipline relevant to Chemical Engineering by the appointment start date is required. We encourage applicants from a wide range of backgrounds, including academia and industry.

Interested candidates should apply using the appropriate cluster link or Job ID below, clearly note their interest in a primary appointment in Chemical Engineering and include a curriculum vitae; a statement of research interests and objectives; a teaching statement; a diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging statement addressing the prompts available in the full job descriptions; and at least three reference letters.
