New Faculty Spotlight: Qing Zhao
Qing Zhao joins the Chemical Engineering department in January 2022 as an Assistant Professor.
Qing Zhao received her dual BS degrees in Mechanical Engineering from Shanghai Jiao Tong University and Purdue University in 2012, and her dual PhD degrees in Mechanical Engineering and Computational Science and Engineering from MIT in 2019. Her doctoral dissertation in first-principles approaches for accurate predictions of nanostructured materials. She completed her postdoc at Princeton University (2018-2021), where she applied advanced quantum mechanical techniques to improve catalytic and chemical descriptions of heterogeneous catalysis. She has been the recipient of awards acknowledging her work including ACS Chemical Computing Group Excellence Award, ACS Editors’ Choice, and JCP Editors’ Choice. Her research interests are centered on the development and application of first-principles methods based on quantum mechanics and machine learning models to understand and design catalysts and materials that address a wide range of globally urgent needs, from energy sustainability, environmental protection, to electronics technologies.
