Building a Better Way to Measure Microparticle Elasticity

Chemical engineering students Sabrina Maroto, PhD’25, and Avi Patel, E’24, working is Assistant Professor Sara Hashmi’s Lab are collaborating to develop a novel device for continuously measuring the elastic properties of microparticles within a single system, aiming to improve accuracy for applications like pharmaceutical drug delivery. The goal is to create an all-in-one tool that provides continuous, accurate measurements of microparticle elasticity, shape, and size. This innovation could significantly benefit pharmaceutical drug delivery systems by ensuring precise particle measurements. Hashmi, along with former postdoc Evyatar Shaulsky, published a patent on this innovation.
