Alumni Panelists Offer Insightful Discussion on Career Development in Chemical Engineering

The Northeastern University Department of Chemical Engineering would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to Drs. Christopher Cogswell, Brian Plouffe, and Noreen Rizvi for their virtual visit as panelists for “Navigating the Job Market Starts With Your Individual Development Plan,” moderated by Dr. Eno Ebong. Representing academia, industry, consulting, entrepreneurship, and scientific communication in the fields of energy, sustainability, and biotech, our panelists shared their career journeys and emphasized the importance of creating a personal roadmap for professional growth while remaining adaptable. Their stories highlighted key components of an effective Individual Development Plan (IDP) designed to prepare for various career paths. They discussed the transition from PhD studies to the workforce, essential skills developed through dissertation research and other experiences, and the importance of networking. This insightful discussion was part of the “Professional Development and Communication in Chemical Engineering” course at Northeastern University.
