Undergraduate Student Awards

Calvin S. Cronan Award

The Award recognizes excellence in both written and verbal communication.

Nabil Morris Award

This award is given out to a junior chemical engineering student who exhibits high moral character and has demonstrated outstanding academic achievement. This award is decided on by the chemical engineering faculty.

Omega Chi Epsilon Award

This Award is an honor bestowed by the Northeastern chapter of Omega Chi Epsilon, the Honor Society for Chemical Engineering on those members of the student body and the Faculty who have demonstrated exceptional achievement in Chemical Engineering.

Kovell Engineering Scholarship

The Kovell Engineering Scholarship is granted for endeavors in Chemical Engineering, to students who demonstrate initiative, self-help, and helpfulness to others.

Professor Bernard Goodwin Scholarship

This award is established to confer honor upon students who have demonstrated hard work and passion for Chemical Engineering. In 2015, Georges Melhem endowed a scholarship in Professor Goodwin’s honor to support undergraduates who decide to major in chemical engineering.

Ron Willey Process Safety Award

The Award recognizes Chemical Engineering undergraduate senior(s) for excellence in process safety.

Behrooz Satvat Award for Undergraduate Teaching

The Award recognizes contributions and accomplishments by undergraduate students in teaching Chemical Engineering.

Undergraduate Research Awards

The Award recognizes chemical engineering students for outstanding contributions to science and engineering research.

Ralph A. Buonopane Award

The Ralph Buonopane Award is granted to students for exemplifying the integration of practical and classroom training in Chemical Engineering and showing outstanding professional promise.

Don Wood Industrial Advisory Board Service Award

The Award recognizes outstanding and prolonged service to the Chemical Engineering Department’s undergraduate organizations and activities.

Undergraduate, Graduate Student, and Postdoctoral Fellow Award

American Institute of Chemists Award

The American Institute of Chemists Student Award Program honors outstanding seniors, post-baccalaureate, and post-doctoral students majoring in chemistry, chemical engineering or biochemistry. The awards are given in recognition of a demonstrated ability, leadership, and professional promise. Candidates are chosen and nominated by their faculty members.

Jeffrey R. Pierce Award

For selfless devotion to enhance our department’s learning community and ensure opportunities for personal growth beyond the classroom and co-op experiences, and for outstanding service to the Department of Chemical Engineering and the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE).

AIChE Academic Excellence Award

The Award recognizes students who attain the highest scholastic grade-point average during their freshman and sophomore years.

AIChE Outstanding Newcomer Awards

The Award is given for outstanding service and leadership potential to the AIChE student chapter.

Faculty and Staff Awards

Dr. Richard H. Sioui Award for Excellence in Teaching Award

Richard H. Sioui was an alumnus of Northeastern University’s Chemical Engineering program from 1959-1964 who established an award to celebrate professors for going beyond the normal expectations of an instructor to make a positive impact on students’ education and careers.

Gilda Barabino Excellence in Mentoring Award

Gilda Barabino became a faculty member of Northeastern University’s Chemical Engineering Department in 1989 and attained the title of associate professor in 1995. She was the Vice Provost for Undergraduate Education at Northeastern from 1999 to 2002 and a professor from 2005 to 2007. In 2007, she moved to Georgia Tech as a professor of biomedical engineering and in 2013 was named Dean of the Grove School of Engineering at CCNY. In 2020, she was named President of Olin College. Dr. Barabino is an active member of the National Academy of Engineering and the National Academy of Medicine, and a fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, the American Institute of Chemical Engineers, the American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering, and the Biomedical Engineering Society. An award was established in her name to honor faculty members who are research-active and who promote the successful research careers of chemical engineering undergraduate students, graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, faculty, and alumni at Northeastern University.
