Chemical Engineering Fall Seminar Series: Micheál Scanlon

November 12, 2025 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm

Chemical Engineering Fall Seminar Series: Micheál Scanlon

Seminar Title: TBD

Location: 108 Snell Engineering Center

Abstract: TBD

Professor Micheál Scanlon Professor Scanlon is an electrochemist and a leader in the field of electrochemistry at polarised immiscible liquid|liquid or “soft” interfaces. In 2016, he was awarded a European Research Council (ERC) Starting Grant, allowing him to develop a world-class laboratory to study polarised liquid|liquid interfaces for energy conversion and storage applications. Using polarised liquid|liquid interfaces, Professor Scanlon has pioneered new approaches to:

  • electrocatalysis of energy related reactions, such as oxygen reduction, hydrogen evolution, and water oxidation,
  • electrosynthesis of conducting polymer thin films and their nanocomposites,
  • bioelectrochemistry of a model enzyme (Cytochrome c),
  • interfacial self-assembly of porphyrin molecules and metallic nanoparticles, and
  • electroanalytical chemistry of non-redox active molecules.
